In the early 1800's New York City "gentlemen" began buying themselves "country estates" in and around Larchmont.
As early as 1872, an announcement in the New York Times claimed that: Larchmont Manor is as quiet and secluded as if a hundred miles away, and is scarcely excelled, either as regards local loveliness or the exquisite views which it commands, by any spot between the Hudson and the St.Lawrence. A statement that many believe remains true today.
Nearby Mamaroneck was once home to a film studio where the first full length feature "Birth of a Nation" was shot in 1915.
Although Larchmont is no longer considered a vacation destination, residents continue to enjoy Manor Park, its beach, and the many recreational facilities that are offered. The square mile village is vibrant with local businesses and restaurants. On sunny afternoons many Larchmonters choose to walk or bicycle, a sight too often lacking in suburban communities.
